AutessaDB vs Amazon Redshift: an Amazon Redshift alternative for AI apps

Amazon Redshift is AWS’s data warehouse, with serverless options, zero-ETL from Aurora, RDS and DynamoDB, Spectrum over Amazon S3 and Amazon Q generative SQL. It is a strong fit for analytics on AWS at very large scale. AutessaDB is built for what happens around the analysis: a columnar data lake beside live tables, semantic search, data agents and triggers that act when rows change.

Why teams choose AutessaDB over Amazon Redshift

Rows that start the work

AWS lists triggers among the PostgreSQL features Redshift does not support. AutessaDB triggers fire on insert, update or delete, run a tool or an agent, and keep the row before and after.

Search by meaning next to your SQL

Mark a text, file or audio column for semantic search and every write is indexed. Agents can search your documents and calls, then run SQL on the data lake.

Agents under each person’s rules

The Redshift MCP server connects as the database user of the IAM identity it runs under. Through the Autessa MCP, Claude or your own agent acts as the person who connected it, and also reaches your tables and apps.

From warehouse to working app

Ask Autobot for a screen, a portal or a workflow over your tables, down to the code, and your developers can edit it directly. There is no separate app stack to stand up.

Moving to AutessaDB from Amazon Redshift

Start with the data your apps and agents need. UNLOAD those tables from Redshift to Parquet, load them into the data lake, and recreate the records people edit as AutessaDB tables. RLS and masking policies become roles, Amazon Q custom context becomes your semantic layer, and scheduled jobs that watch for changes become triggers.

AutessaDB and Amazon Redshift: questions

Is AutessaDB a Redshift alternative?

For apps and agents on your own data, yes. AutessaDB combines a columnar data lake with live tables, semantic search, row rules and triggers. You can keep your warehouse running and load what your apps need from Parquet or CSV.

Does AutessaDB need zero-ETL or a separate ingestion service?

No. Upload CSV or Parquet, have files fetched by the server, or copy an AutessaDB table into the data lake in one step, with bad rows reported.

Can agents answer data questions without custom code?

Yes. One action creates describe, query and result tools for the tables you pick. An agent with them reads your semantic layer, prefers your verified queries and sees only what its identity may see.

What can I customize?

Tables, roles, triggers and the semantic layer are yours to define, and the Autessa app around them can be changed down to its code, by Autobot from a plain-language request or by your developers.

How does the Autessa MCP compare with the Redshift MCP server?

The Redshift server discovers clusters and runs queries, read-only by default, and AWS also offers a managed AWS MCP Server. The Autessa MCP gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own agents your tables, data lake, semantic search and every Autessa app, with row rules and masks on each call.

It works out of the box: create a table, mark a column for semantic search, load the data lake and connect an agent, then compare for yourself.

100% customizable, code and all

Make AutessaDB fully your own.

Use it out of the box, then change anything. Ask Autobot, Autessa’s AI builder, for a new field, screen, report, workflow or agent and it builds it into your copy of the app. Or open the code and edit it yourself. Nothing is locked: the app, its data and its code are yours.
