REST API, CLI and SDK
AutessaDB is fully programmable: a REST API at https://api.autessa.com/clients/autessadb, the autessadb namespace in the Autessa CLI, and the autessa.autessadb SDK inside scripts. All three apply the same row-level and field-level security as the web app.
-- the problem
A database you can only click through is not a backend
Teams want to seed data from CI, sync from another system, and let coding agents read schemas. AutessaDB exposes every table operation, from schema to triggers to the access log, through stable interfaces, so the builder is a convenience rather than the only door.
What you get
- REST API calls pass an API key in the Authorization header and the table id as resourceId.
- API keys get READ, WRITE and DELETE per table, and never reach more than their owner can.
- The CLI covers tables, query, trigger, roles, access-log, drive and analytics sub-namespaces.
- Rows are written as typed values (columnType plus textValue, integerValue and so on); a bare value returns a clear error instead of a silent misparse.
- The SDK adds keyset pagination, aggregates and bulk writes with per-row results.
- Short CLI commands for analytics (autessa analytics) and Drives (autessa drive) exist for everyday work.
- Install and set up the CLI from the docs at docs.autessa.com.
-- how it works
How does rest api, cli and sdk work in AutessaDB?
Get access
Create an API key with table permissions, or sign in to the CLI with your Autessa account.
Read the shape
Read one row back with query get-data and copy the typed value shape.
Write and query
Insert, update, query, join, aggregate and search with the same rules everywhere.
-- every option
Interfaces
| option | what it does |
|---|---|
| REST API | https://api.autessa.com/clients/autessadb with resourceId and an Authorization header (no Bearer prefix). |
| Key permissions | READ (get-data, query, join-query, aggregate, get-single-row, search), WRITE (inserts, updates, uploads, indexing), DELETE (row deletes). |
| CLI | autessa autessadb tables | query | trigger | roles | access-log | drive | analytics. |
| SDK | autessa.autessadb in AutessaScript, with drive and analytics groups. |
| Typed values | Write rows as { columnType, ...Value } objects; filters take plain values. |
| Rate limits | Read and aggregate endpoints are rate-limited per company. |

-- permissions
Who can do what?
| access | can |
|---|---|
| API key | Exactly the per-table permissions it was given, capped by its owner's access. |
| CLI user | Whatever that person can do in the web app. |
| Script | Runs as its invoking identity, with the same security. |

Questions about rest api, cli and sdk
Does AutessaDB have a REST API?
Yes. The base URL is https://api.autessa.com/clients/autessadb. Pass your API key in the Authorization header and the table id as resourceId.
Can an API key see more than its owner?
No. If the owner cannot read a table, neither can the key, whatever its permissions say.
How do I install the Autessa CLI?
Follow the install page at docs.autessa.com/docs/cli/install, then run autessa autessadb help to see every command.
100% customizable, code and all
Make AutessaDB fully your own.
Use it out of the box, then change anything. Ask Autobot, Autessa’s AI builder, for a new field, screen, report, workflow or agent and it builds it into your copy of the app. Or open the code and edit it yourself. Nothing is locked: the app, its data and its code are yours.
