Pipelines and impact analysis

AutessaDB turns tables into event-driven pipelines without queues or glue code. A trigger on table A writes a row into table B, whose own trigger runs the next step, and every stage's input and output is an ordinary row you can inspect and correct. Before you change anything, an impact analyzer maps what an event would set off and warns about cycles.

-- the problem

Multi-step processing usually hides in queues

Intake, extract, review, publish: when each step is a message on a queue, finding where a record got stuck means reading logs. In AutessaDB, each stage is a table, so the pipeline is something you can open, filter and fix by hand.

What you get

  • Update AutessaDB actions, tools and agents can all write rows that fire the next trigger.
  • A common shape: intake INSERT runs a tool, the tool writes a result column, and "result became non-null" runs the next step.
  • The impact analyzer takes a table and an event type and maps the matching triggers and every table, tool and agent the cascade could touch.
  • It reports detected cycles with a description and a severity of WARNING or ERROR.
  • Analysis is static: nothing is executed.
  • Stages stay correctable: fix a row by hand and the downstream trigger reacts.

-- how it works

How does pipelines and impact analysis work in AutessaDB?

  1. Model stages as tables

An intake table, a working table and an output table, or columns that fill in turn.

  2. Key each trigger on an artifact

Fire when the previous stage's output column becomes non-null.

  3. Analyze the impact

Run the impact analyzer for the event you are about to change and check for cycles.

  4. Watch it run

Follow each record through the tables and the execution history.

Questions about pipelines and impact analysis

Do I need a message queue for multi-step processing?

No. Triggers that write rows into other tables chain into pipelines, and each stage is a table you can inspect.

How do I avoid infinite trigger loops?

Run the impact analyzer before changing triggers; it maps the cascade and reports cycles. If a loop runs, disable the trigger rather than deleting it.

Does the analyzer run my triggers?

No. It is a static analysis and executes nothing.
