Autessa Security & Compliance as an alternative to HashiCorp Vault
HashiCorp Vault is the standard for infrastructure secrets, with dynamic credentials, PKI and encryption services, and many teams should keep it for that. For the API keys your tools, agents and apps use, Autessa Secrets is built in, and takes a different approach: the automation that uses a secret never gets to read it.

Where Autessa wins
Why teams choose Autessa over HashiCorp Vault
Destination control
A secret goes only to the hostnames you list, so even an edited tool cannot send your Stripe key anywhere but Stripe.
Used, never viewed
Scripts hold an opaque handle and the value is filled in only inside the outgoing HTTPS request, so a compromised script has nothing to print.
Agents never see the value through MCP
Claude or your own agent can run tools that use a secret through the Autessa MCP, and machine identities can never reveal one. The value stays out of the model entirely.
Change the workflow, not the rule
Ask Autobot to build a secrets review screen or a rotation reminder workflow. Protections such as two-person reveal stay in force.
FAQ
Autessa and HashiCorp Vault: questions
Do I still need a separate secrets manager?
For the credentials Autessa tools and apps use, Autessa Secrets covers storage, destination control, rotation, reveal and audit. Vault remains a good fit for infrastructure needs such as dynamic database credentials and PKI, and the two work side by side.
Does Vault have two-person approval too?
Vault Enterprise and HCP Vault Dedicated offer control groups that require approvals before a request completes. In Autessa, two-person reveal is part of Secrets in every company, and a reveal can be viewed once.
What can I customize around Autessa Secrets?
Allowed hosts, tool binding, access levels and Sealed or Revealable are settings. The screens and workflows around them can be changed by Autobot or your developers, and those changes cannot expose a secret value.
Can an AI assistant work with secrets through MCP?
It can use tools that rely on a secret, within the access of whoever connected it. It can never read or reveal the value.
Where are Autessa’s compliance reports?
