Review before write · Autessa Synthetic Data
Review-first mode
Review-first mode in Autessa Synthetic Data stages generated rows instead of writing them. The job pauses in "Awaiting review" so a person can preview every batch, open any row, and then approve and write or discard everything. Nothing lands until someone approves. On your instructions, an Autessa agent can email or call the reviewer when a job is waiting on them.
The problem
Writing first and cleaning up later is risky
Once thousands of generated rows are in a shared table, removing the bad ones is tedious and easy to get wrong. Most teams want to look before anything is written, especially the first time they run a new description.
What you get
- "Review first" is the recommended write mode on the New dataset screen.
- Staged rows are shown in a typed grid with each column’s type in the header.
- Page through batches with Previous and Next; each page holds up to 200 rows.
- Click a row to see every value in full.
- Approve and write sends every remaining staged row to the target in the background.
- Discard throws away every staged row and writes nothing; it cannot be undone.
- Works for tables and dataset files alike.
How it works
How does review-first mode work?
Choose Review first
Select it in Write mode before you start.
Wait for Awaiting review
The job generates every batch, then pauses. The first batch loads automatically.
Look through the rows
Page through batches and open any row in full.
Fix what you see
Exclude rows, regenerate a batch or append more rows.
Approve or discard
Approve and write to send the rows to the target, or discard to throw them away.
Every option

FAQ
Questions about review-first mode
Is review the default?
In the app, "Review first" is the recommended choice. On the CLI and API the default is direct writing, so pass `--writeMode REVIEW` when you want to review.
Where are staged rows kept while I review?
In Autessa storage, encrypted with your company key, until you approve or discard.
What does Discard do to rows already written?
In review mode nothing has been written, so nothing remains. For a direct-mode job, rows already written stay in the table.
