Quality and variety · Autessa Synthetic Data
Ranges, lengths and allowed values
Autessa Synthetic Data enforces the rules on every column. Required columns are never empty, numbers stay inside the table’s minimum and maximum, text respects length limits, and select columns only ever use the values you allow.
The problem
Data that breaks the rules breaks the test
A seats value of 240 when the plan allows 200, a status that is not in your enum, or an empty name all cause failures that have nothing to do with what you are testing.
What you get
- Required columns are never null.
- Integer and decimal columns honor the table’s minimum and maximum.
- Short and long text honor minimum and maximum lengths, trimming over-length text.
- Single select uses exactly one allowed value; multi select uses only allowed values.
- Select values are matched regardless of case and stored in their canonical spelling.
- Column descriptions add softer guidance, such as typical ranges or proportions.
How it works
How does ranges, lengths and allowed values work?
Set the rules
In a table, rules come from its schema. In the editor, mark columns required and add allowed values.
Guide the mix
Use the column description for proportions, such as "about one in ten is Urgent".
Generate
Every row is checked; rows that break a rule are repaired once or dropped.
Every option
Rules by column type
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Required | Any type. The value must be present. |
| Integer / Decimal | Minimum and maximum from the table schema; numeric strings are converted. |
| Short / Long text | Minimum and maximum length; over-length text is trimmed. |
| Boolean | true or false; common words like "yes" are converted. |
| Single / Multi select | Only allowed values, matched without regard to case. |
| Dates | Generated as short text holding a UTC ISO-8601 value. |

FAQ
Questions about ranges, lengths and allowed values
Can I control the proportion of each value?
Describe it in the column description or the dataset description, such as "80% insured". The generator follows that guidance across every batch.
Where do number ranges come from?
From the table schema’s minimum and maximum settings. For dataset files, describe the range in the column description.
What about unique values?
Near-duplicate rows are removed across the job based on their main text columns, so every row stays distinct.
