Schema editor and column types

The Autessa Synthetic Data schema editor defines the columns to generate. Each column has a name, one of seven generatable types, a description that guides the generator, a required flag, and allowed values for select columns.

The problem

A generator is only as good as its columns

Even with AI proposals you need control: rename a column to match your code, mark one as never empty, or restrict a status to the four values your app accepts. Without that control, generated data drifts away from what your system expects.

What you get

  • Seven generatable types: short text, long text, integer, decimal, boolean, single select and multi select.
  • A per-column description guides the generator, for example its meaning, distribution or edge cases.
  • Required columns are never empty.
  • Single and multi select columns need at least one allowed value, entered as tags.
  • Names are checked as you type: letters, numbers and underscores, starting with a letter or underscore, and no duplicates.
  • Edit or delete any column from the list at any time before you start.

How it works

How does schema editor and column types work?

  1. Add a column

Press "Add column" and enter a name and a type.

  2. Describe it

Write a short description to guide the generator, such as "most tickets are Normal; about one in ten is Urgent".

  3. Set rules

Tick "Required (never null)" and, for select columns, type each allowed value and press Enter.

  4. Save and repeat

Save the column. The list shows each column’s name, type, required badge, description and the first allowed values.

DescriptionOptional guidance for the generator: meaning, distribution, edge cases.
Allowed valuesRequired for Single and Multi Select. The generator may only use these values.
RequiredWhen ticked, the column is never null in generated rows.
Not generatableFile, image, audio and video columns cannot be generated. They are not offered in the editor and are left empty in table targets.

FAQ

Questions about schema editor and column types

Which column types can be generated?

Short text, long text, integer, decimal, boolean, single select and multi select. File, image, audio and video columns are flagged as not generatable and left empty, ready for your own files.

Do I need the schema editor for an existing table?

No. For an existing table the job uses that table’s columns, shown as chips with their types. The editor is for new tables, dataset files and quick generate.

How do I generate a JSON value?

Use a short text or long text column and describe the JSON shape in the column description. Autessa tables have no separate JSON type.

100% customizable, code and all

Make Autessa Synthetic Data fully your own.

Use it out of the box, then change anything. Ask Autobot, Autessa’s AI builder, for a new field, screen, report, workflow or agent and it builds it into your copy of the app. Or open the code and edit it yourself. Nothing is locked: the app, its data and its code are yours.
