Describe and design · Autessa Synthetic Data
AI schema proposal
Autessa Synthetic Data proposes a schema for you. Press "Propose schema from description" and Autessa suggests a table name and typed columns, with a description on each, from the text you wrote and any sample rows.
The problem
Designing columns is the slow part
Before you can generate anything you normally have to decide every column name, type and allowed value. For a quick demo or a new test fixture that design work takes longer than the data itself, and it is easy to forget the column that makes the data believable.
What you get
- One button turns a description into suggested columns with types and descriptions.
- For new tables it also suggests a table name, filled in only if you have not typed one.
- Sample rows, when provided, steer the proposed columns.
- Proposed schemas never include media columns or the legacy date type: dates are proposed as text in ISO-8601 format.
- Everything proposed is editable in the schema editor before you start.
- Nothing is created by proposing; it is a draft until you start the job.
How it works
How does aI schema proposal work?
Write the description
Describe the data first. Proposing needs a description; the button asks for one if it is empty.
Press Propose schema
Autessa returns a suggested table name and a list of columns with types, required flags, allowed values and descriptions.
Review the columns
Edit, remove or add columns in the schema editor. Add allowed values to select columns if you want a fixed set.
Generate
Start the job. For a new table, the proposed table name is used unless you changed it.
Every option
What a proposal contains
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Suggested table name | A table name derived from the description. Used for new tables when the name field is empty. |
| Columns | Name, type, required flag, description and, for select columns, allowed values. |
| Types | Short text, long text, integer, decimal, boolean, single select or multi select. |
| Inputs | The description (required) and optional sample rows. |
| CLI | autessa synthetic-data propose-schema --description "..." returns the same proposal without creating anything. |

| Who | Can |
|---|---|

| API keys | Can run quick generate, propose schemas and run dataset file jobs. Table targets need a signed-in person. |
Where AI does the work
How the generator handles this
A single model call reads the description and any sample rows and returns a schema. Autessa then removes anything that cannot be generated, such as media columns or the legacy date type, so a stray suggestion never reaches your job.
Generation runs on your company default model, and every row is checked against your columns before it is staged or written.

FAQ
Questions about aI schema proposal
Does proposing a schema create a table?
No. A proposal is only a suggestion. The table is created when you start a job with the "New table" target.
Why are dates proposed as short text?
Autessa tables store your own dates and times as text holding a UTC ISO-8601 value, so the proposal follows the same rule and the generator writes values like 2026-03-14T09:30:00Z.
Can I propose columns in Quick generate?
Yes. Quick generate has "Propose columns from description", which works the same way and drops any media columns.
