Focus mode and room layout

Focus mode leaves just the code and the output on screen, and the question pane and output panel collapse or resize, remembered per browser.

// the problem

Why focus mode and room layout matters in a coding interview

Interview tools crowd the screen with panels, so the code ends up in a narrow strip. Interviewers on a laptop need the code to take the screen, and the output to be there only when they want it.

// how it works

How does focus mode and room layout work?

  1. The room opens code-first

    In the live room the console’s navigation starts hidden, and the question pane and output panel can collapse.

  2. Arrange the panes

    Collapse the question pane, drag the output divider, double-click to reset it, or widen the output fully.

  3. Turn on focus mode

    Focus mode hides the header and side panels and leaves just the code and the output.

  4. It remembers

    Pane choices and text size are remembered per browser, separately for the interviewer and the candidate.

Focus mode and room layout: questions

Can the candidate use focus mode too?

Yes. The candidate room has its own focus mode that leaves just the code and the output.

Is the layout saved?

Yes, in each person’s browser, so the room opens the way they left it.

Can I resize the output with the keyboard?

Yes. Focus the divider and use the arrow keys; hold Shift for bigger steps.
