Character reference
Autessa Video Studio grounds every AI image on a single character reference so scenes look like one video, not a collage. The default is a hand-drawn stick figure with a locked doodle style; you can also use your own image, such as a house-tour photo, so generated fill-ins match the set.
The problem
AI images drift from scene to scene
Generate ten images separately and you get ten different art styles and ten different characters. That breaks a short video. Video Studio sends the same reference with every image so the character and look hold steady.
Where it happens
What you get
- Every generated image is grounded on the reference.
- Stick figure by default: black marker line art on a plain white background, hand-drawn doodle style, vertical composition.
- The stick-figure style is locked so it cannot drift.
- Use a custom image instead, and generated scenes are styled to match it.
- Change the reference later; new images follow it.
How it works
How does character reference work in Autessa Video Studio?
Start with the default
New videos use the stick-figure reference unless you change it.
Or upload a custom reference
Pick an image that sets the look, such as a photo from the set you are filming.
Generate images
Each scene's image is generated against the reference.

Where AI helps here
The reference image is passed with every image generation, so the model keeps the character and style consistent across scenes.
Video Studio runs on Autessa's own AI models and shows an AI task estimate before every step that uses AI.

FAQ
Questions about character reference
How do I keep AI characters consistent across scenes?
Video Studio grounds every image on one character reference, the stick figure by default or your own image, so the look stays the same.
Can I use my own reference image?
Yes. Upload a custom image and generated scenes will follow its look.
Why is the stick-figure style locked?
Locking the style keeps every image in the same hand-drawn doodle look, which is what makes the default reference reliable.
