Sales tax · Autessa Payments

What-you-sell tax guidance

Autessa Payments asks what you sell (physical products, services, software for businesses or individuals, digital products, or something that isn’t taxed) and then suggests how it is taxed, where to collect tax now and where to keep an eye on as your sales grow. It is general guidance you confirm, not tax advice.

The problem it solves

Most businesses don’t know where they owe tax

The same sale is taxed in one state and not another, and remote sales create obligations once you pass a state’s limit. Autessa turns that into a short question and a clear suggestion.

What you get

  • Pick a category; for software, also choose whether businesses or individuals buy it.
  • Outside the US, Autessa also asks whether you are already registered for VAT or GST.
  • Not sure? Choose Describe it and type what you sell (“project management app for small teams”) to get a category suggestion.
  • The suggestion shows Taxed as, Collect tax in and Keep an eye on.
  • Save and add the suggested places in one click, or Save — I don’t collect tax yet.
  • Change the category any time; it applies to invoices you create afterward.

AI assist

How AI helps here

Ask the guide “What sales tax do I need to charge?” It asks what you sell and where your customers are, explains its suggestion and can set the category and add places once you click Do it. Every answer carries a note that it is general information, not tax advice.

Nothing that creates, sends or changes money happens until a person confirms it.
