Hidden briefs and character tells
Autessa Roleplay gives every scenario a hidden brief and every character a set of tells: information the AI acts on but the trainee never sees. The character holds back what a real buyer, employee or customer would, until the trainee earns it with the right questions.
The problem it solves
If the AI tells you everything, you never learn to ask
Discovery, coaching and support all depend on finding out what the other person is not saying. A roleplay partner that volunteers its budget, its real objection and its decision process in the first minute makes every trainee look good and teaches nobody to dig.
What you get
- Hidden brief on every scenario: what the character really thinks, will not volunteer, and what makes them walk away.
- Situation for the character: the scene written to the AI as "you" statements.
- Tells on every character: what warms them up and what shuts them down.
- Never shown on the trainee brief.
- Shown to authors in Coach notes on the scenario page and the Tells card on the character page.
- Pairs with rubric criteria, so finding the hidden fact is exactly what gets scored.
The run-through
How does hidden briefs and character tells work?
- SCENE 1
Write what they will not say
In the hidden brief, write the fact the trainee has to uncover and what the character does if they never ask.
- SCENE 2
Write what moves them
In the character's tells, write what warms them up and what shuts them down.
- SCENE 3
Score it
Add a criterion that rewards uncovering it, such as Identify pain or Economic buyer.
- SCENE 4
Watch it play out
In the report, the evidence quotes show whether the trainee earned the answer.

What the AI does
Behind the scenes
The character agent is given the hidden brief and tells along with the public scenario. It is instructed to hold the hidden information back and to react to the tells, which is what makes a sharp question pay off and a feature dump fall flat.
Questions
Questions about hidden briefs and character tells
Can a trainee see the hidden brief?
No. It is never shown on the brief or the scenario page for trainees. Only people who can author content see it.
What should go in a hidden brief?
The thing a real person would hold back: a past failed purchase, the real decision maker, budget, a personal worry, or what makes them end the conversation.
Does the character ever reveal the hidden information?
Yes, when the trainee earns it. The character is told to hold it back unless asked well.
