Multi-currency

Autessa Accounting supports multi-currency invoices and bills. The books stay in US dollars: a foreign amount converts at the newest exchange rate on or before its date, and any change by the time it is paid books a realized exchange gain or loss.

The problem

Foreign customers make the books drift

Invoicing €1,000 at one rate and collecting at another leaves a difference that has to go somewhere. A single home-currency ledger with rates captured on each transaction keeps one trial balance, and the difference lands in its own FX account.

What you get

  • Exchange rates you enter: currency, 1 unit in US dollars, and an as-of date.
  • The newest rate on or before a transaction’s date is the one used.
  • Realized FX gain or loss (account 7000) when the rate moved between booking and payment.
  • An Unrealized FX gain/loss account (7100) is in the starting chart for period-end revaluation.
  • Rates are stored as exact integers, so conversions never drift by fractions of a cent.

How it works

How does multi-currency work in Autessa Accounting?

  1. Add rates

In Chart of accounts → Exchange rates, add the rate for each currency you bill or pay in.

  2. Book in the foreign currency

The invoice or bill is converted at the rate on its date.

  3. Payment books the difference

If the rate moved by payment, the gain or loss posts to Realized FX Gain/Loss.
