Browser task recorder

Autodocs includes a browser task recorder: press Record a workflow, do the task once in the browser that opens, and every action is captured as a plain-language step.

THE PROBLEM

Writing down a process takes longer than doing it

Most teams know their processes by heart and have them written down nowhere. Writing a how-to means doing the task, stopping to take screenshots, cropping them, describing every click and keeping it all in a doc nobody updates. Automating the same task usually means a developer and a test framework. The Autodocs recorder makes both a by-product of doing the task once.

Press Record a workflow and a real browser opens inside Autessa. Do the task once; every click, keystroke and pause is captured as a readable step.

How it works

How does browser task recorder work in Autodocs?

  1. 1

    Press Record a workflow

In Autodocs, or from Autodocs in the sidebar, a browser opens and recording starts straight away. There is nothing to install.

  2. 2

    Go to the starting page

Type an address in the recorder’s own address bar, such as portal.example.com. Going to an address is recorded as an Open step.

  3. 3

Do the task the way you always do

Click, type, press Enter or Tab, scroll, hover over menus and choose from dropdowns. Each action shows up in the step list beside the browser, in plain words, with the pause before it.

  4. 4

Name it and choose how it replays

Give it a name, such as “Refund a damaged order”, and pick At recorded pace or As fast as possible.

  5. 5

    Finish

Autodocs saves the workflow, closes the browser and writes the draft guide from it, with a highlighted screenshot per step. Or press Discard to throw the recording away.

Where AI helps

Recording itself is exactly what you did, step by step. AI comes in afterwards: it writes the guide from your steps, and at replay time it finds elements that have moved.

FAQ

Browser task recorder: questions

What happens if I reload the page while recording?

Nothing is lost. A recording carries on across a reload or leaving the page; the browser stays open until you finish or discard it, and the recorder picks it up when you come back.

Do I need a browser extension?

No. The recorder’s browser runs in the cloud and appears right in the Autodocs page, so it works the same on any computer.

What gets recorded?

Every address you go to, click, typed text, key press, scroll, hover menu and dropdown choice, each with the pause before it. Typed passwords never appear in the steps you see.

Can I record a task an Autobot does instead?

Yes. An Autobot can record what it does in its own browser and save it as a workflow, and documents it writes about that work arrive in Autodocs as drafts.

Try browser task recorder on a task you do every week.

Record it once in Autodocs. You get the guide for your team and the workflow for next time.
