AI voice agents · Autessa Phone & Texting
Secure keypad capture
Autessa Phone & Texting includes secure keypad capture: an AI voice agent can ask a caller to type a card number, bank details, an account number or a Social Security number on the phone keypad while the recording and the AI are paused. The digits are validated, and the agent only receives a masked summary and a handle it can pass to the next step.
The problem it solves
Sensitive numbers should never be spoken to an AI
Reading a card number aloud means it ends up in the transcript, the recording and the model's context. Secure keypad capture keeps those digits off all three: the caller types them, the system checks them, and the agent continues with "card ending 4242" instead of the number itself.
What you get
- Collects card details, bank details, account numbers or a Social Security number on the keypad.
- Recording and the AI are paused while the caller types.
- Digits are validated before they are accepted.
- The agent receives a masked summary and a handle such as PM_1, never the digits.
- The digits stay out of the transcript, the recording and the logs.
- Pressing * cancels, so callers stay in control.
How it works
How does secure keypad capture work?
Add the tool to the agent
Give the voice agent the secure keypad capture tool and choose what it collects: card, bank, account number or SSN.
The agent asks
When the caller is ready, the agent calls the tool. The recording and AI pause and the caller is prompted to type on the keypad.
The caller types
The digits are validated as they are entered. The caller can press * to cancel.
The agent continues
The agent gets a masked summary and a handle like PM_1, which a later tool or workflow can use, and the call carries on.

AI on the line
What AI agents do here
The agent decides when to start a capture and explains it to the caller, but the capture itself happens without the AI listening. Afterward the agent works only with the masked summary, for example confirming "the card ending 4242".

Yes, with secure keypad capture. The caller types the card number on the keypad while the recording and AI are paused, and the agent only receives a masked summary and a handle.
Does the card number end up in the transcript or recording?
No. The digits are kept out of the transcript, the recording, the AI's context and the logs.
What else can it collect?
Bank details, account numbers and Social Security numbers, as well as card details.
Can the caller stop partway?
Yes. Pressing * cancels the capture and the conversation continues.
