AI changelog drafts

Autessa Status Page drafts your changelog automatically. Every night it reads the pull requests merged the day before in the repositories you chose, and an AI writer turns them into customer-facing release notes in New, Improved and Fixed sections, then saves the result as a draft that waits for a person.

Tonight, 1:00 AM PacificSAMPLE
  1. Yesterday: Nov 2
No entry yet for that day.
  2. 23 pull requests merged in your organization
14 in the repositories you switched on; 3 are automated dependency updates.
  3. AI writer drafts for customers
Groups related changes, drops internal work, writes New, Improved, Fixed.
  4. Draft saved: "Bulk export for reports"
State: Waiting for approval. Source pull requests attached.

The problem it solves

Nobody has time to write release notes, so nobody does

Engineering ships changes every week, and writing them up for customers is always somebody's last task. Raw pull request titles are no substitute: they are full of repository names, ticket numbers and internal terms. An AI first draft written for customers turns a chore into a two-minute review.

What you get

  • Runs every night at 1:00 AM Pacific for the previous day.
  • Draft this day: pick any past day in Status Admin and draft it on demand.
  • Reads merged pull requests from GitHub through a read-only connection.
  • Only repositories you switched on are used.
  • Pull request templates and checklists are stripped, and long descriptions are trimmed before the AI reads them.
  • Automated dependency updates are labeled so the writer can fold them into one line.
  • One entry per day: a day that already has an entry, in any state, is left alone.
  • Days with no merged pull requests get no entry.
  • The original AI draft is kept, so reviewers can compare it with the final wording.

How it works

How does AI changelog drafts work?

  1. The nightly job wakes up

At 1:00 AM Pacific it picks yesterday's date in Pacific time.

  2. It checks for an existing entry

If the day already has one, it stops and changes nothing.

  3. It gathers the day's pull requests

Every pull request merged that day in your organization, kept only if its repository is switched on.

  4. The AI writer drafts

It groups related changes, leaves out what customers cannot notice, and writes a headline and New, Improved and Fixed sections.

  5. A draft is saved

With the source pull requests attached and the state "Waiting for approval". Nothing is published.

Where AI helps

What the AI does, and where people decide

The changelog writer is an Autessa AI agent with fixed instructions. It writes for customers, not engineers: it describes what changed in plain language, groups related pull requests into one bullet, and leaves out tests, build and deploy changes, refactors, internal tools and reverted work. Security and dependency updates become at most one line, and it never names a vulnerability. It never mentions customer or people's names, email addresses, internal hostnames, account ids, secrets or prices, and it never invents a change: an unclear pull request is left out. If nothing that day is visible to customers, it says so with a short title like "Behind-the-scenes improvements".

FAQ

Questions about AI changelog drafts

Can a changelog be written automatically from pull requests?

Yes. Autessa Status Page drafts release notes every night from the pull requests merged the day before, and a person approves them before they are published.

Does the AI see my code?

No. It reads each pull request's repository, title and the start of its description, with templates and checklists stripped. It does not read code changes.

What if the AI draft is wrong?

It is only a draft. A reviewer edits the wording, can compare it with the original, and decides whether to publish or skip the day.
