Friendly link states

The Autessa Video Viewer shows a friendly page for links that are not live. A draft, a removed video or a mistyped id shows “This video doesn’t exist”. If playback is not set up yet, viewers see a plain reason instead of a broken page.

The problem

A broken page makes your link look broken

When a link does not play, viewers assume the sender made a mistake, and the sender assumes the viewer did. Honest, plain states save both of them the back and forth.

What you get

  • Drafts are never shown publicly: the viewer treats them like a missing video.
  • “This video doesn’t exist. The video may have been removed, or it isn’t published yet.”
  • When the server gives a reason (for example, viewing is not set up), the viewer shows “This video can’t be shown right now” with that reason.
  • Every state offers “Enter another link”.
  • In Video Creator, the owner sees a matching warning before they share a link that will not play.

How it works

How does friendly link states work in Autessa Video Creator?

  1. Step 1. Viewer opens a link

The viewer asks for the published video with that id.

  2. Step 2. No published video

It shows “This video doesn’t exist”.

  3. Step 3. A setup problem

It shows the plain reason instead, so nobody wastes time re-checking a good link.

FAQ

Questions about friendly link states

Does the viewer reveal that a draft exists?

No. A draft and a missing video look exactly the same to the public.

Why does my link say it can’t be shown right now?

Usually the viewer’s playback key is off or not set up. Open Settings, then Site keys, in Video Creator and press Set up or Fix.

Will viewers see technical error messages?

No. Viewers only ever see short, plain-language messages.
