Dynamic QR codes

Autessa QR Codes is a dynamic QR code generator: you give a code a name and a destination, and it is ready to print. The image encodes a short Autessa link with a permanent, automatically assigned slug, not your destination, so the code never has to be reprinted when your plans change.

The problem

Static QR codes are frozen the moment you print them

A static QR code bakes your web address into the pattern. Change the page, fix a typo or end the campaign, and every flyer, sticker and package with that code is wrong forever. You also never learn whether anyone scanned it. A dynamic QR code puts a short link in the pattern instead, so the destination, the on and off switch and the scan count all stay under your control.

FROM THE PRINT SHOP

Make one code per placement (the window poster, the counter card, the receipt) instead of one code everywhere. Each gets its own scan count, so you can see which spot actually works.

What you get

  • Creating a code takes two fields: a name for your own list, and the destination people should land on.
  • The public slug is assigned for you (seven letters and digits) and never changes, so the printed code is permanent.
  • You never pick or edit the slug, which means no clashes, no typos and no way to break a code that is already printed.
  • If you type a destination without https://, it is added for you.
  • A live preview of the code appears while you fill in the form.
  • The name is private: it is only for your QR code list and is never shown to scanners.
  • New codes are active straight away and start counting scans from the first one.

How it works

How does dynamic QR codes work?

  1. Open QR Codes

In Autessa, open QR Codes and choose New QR code. You see your list of codes with Mine and Shared with me views.

  2. Name it and set the destination

Give the code a name you will recognize later, like “Spring open house poster”, and paste the page it should open. A live preview appears beside the form.

  3. Create

Autessa assigns the code its permanent slug and short link, saves it as active and opens its page, where you can style it, add campaign tracking and download it.

  4. Print and place it

Download an SVG or PNG, or print it directly. From here on, everything about the code except its short link can change.

Every option

What a new QR code has

OptionWhat it does
NameRequired. For your own reference in the list; scanners never see it. You can rename it later.
DestinationRequired. The page a scan opens. https:// is added when no scheme is typed. Editable at any time.
SlugAssigned automatically: seven lowercase letters and digits. Fixed for the life of the code; you never set it.
Encoded URLThe short link the image actually holds. It never changes, so printed codes keep working.
ActiveOn by default. Turn it off (pause) to stop the code redirecting.
DesignStarts in deep lavender on white with square modules and square eyes; change it on the code’s page.
Campaign tracking (UTM)Off by default, with defaults ready to switch on: source qr, medium qr_code, campaign qr_ plus the slug.

FAQ

Questions about dynamic QR codes

Is every Autessa QR code dynamic?

Yes. Every code encodes a short Autessa link that redirects, which is what lets you change the destination, pause the code and count scans. Every code gets all of that from day one.

How is a code’s short link set?

Autessa assigns the slug automatically and locks it, so a printed code can never be broken by a later edit. Everything else (name, destination, design, tracking, active state) can change any time.

Do scanners see the name I give a code?

No. The name is only for your QR code list. Scanners only ever see the page they land on.

What kinds of QR code can I make?

Autessa QR Codes makes web-link codes: each one opens a destination URL. Point it at any page, form, file link, app or landing page you like, and change it whenever you need to.
