Dynamic QR codes · Autessa QR Codes
Pause, reactivate and retire codes
You can pause an Autessa QR code so it stops redirecting, then activate it again whenever you like. Pausing is the safe, reversible way to retire a printed code; deleting is permanent and cannot be undone.
The problem
Old codes keep sending people to old pages
Printed codes outlive the campaigns they were made for. A badge from last year’s conference or a sticker from a finished promotion can keep sending people to an expired offer or a page that no longer exists. A dynamic QR code that you can switch off means a retired print simply stops working, and it can come back if you reuse the print.
FROM THE PRINT SHOP
Give a Manager the job of switching codes on and off for events. They can pause and reactivate without being able to delete anything.
What you get
- Every code has a Pause button; a paused code shows Activate instead.
- A paused code stops redirecting: scanners get a not-found response rather than your old destination.
- Pausing keeps everything: the design, the destination, the campaign tags and the full scan history.
- Activate it again and the same printed codes start working on the next scan.
- The list shows each code’s status, so paused codes are easy to spot.
- Delete is separate, asks for confirmation and warns that the printed code will stop working and this cannot be undone.
How it works
How does pause, reactivate and retire codes work?
Open the code
Find it in your QR Codes list; its status shows whether it is active.
Pause
Choose Pause. The code stops redirecting straight away.
Reactivate when you need it
Choose Activate and every printed copy works again on the next scan.
Delete only when it is truly done
Delete removes the code for good after you confirm. Use it for codes that were never printed or are gone from the world.
Every option
Lifecycle controls
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Active | The code redirects every scan to its destination and records the scan. |
| Paused | The code does not redirect. Everything about it is kept. Reversible at any time. |
| Rename | Change the private name at any time; the code and its link are unaffected. |
| Delete | Permanent. The printed code stops working and the code cannot be restored. |
| From the CLI | autessa qr-codes update with active false (pause) or true (activate); autessa qr-codes delete to remove. |

FAQ
Questions about pause, reactivate and retire codes
What does someone see when they scan a paused QR code?
The code does not redirect them anywhere: the scan link returns not found instead of opening your old destination. Activate the code and the next scan works again.
Is pausing a QR code reversible?
Yes. Pausing keeps the design, destination, tags and scan history, and Activate turns the same code back on.
What is the difference between pausing and deleting?
Pausing is reversible and keeps everything. Deleting is permanent: the printed code stops working and the code cannot be brought back.
Who can pause a code?
The owner, company admins, and anyone it is shared with as Manager or Admin.
