UTM campaign tracking
Autessa QR Codes supports UTM QR codes: turn on campaign tracking for a code and every scan arrives on your page with utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign already added. Your own web analytics then credit the visit to the right campaign.
The problem
Without tags, QR traffic looks like it came from nowhere
When someone scans a code and lands on your site, most web analytics file the visit as “direct” traffic, mixed in with people who typed your address. UTM parameters fix that by labeling the visit on arrival. Doing it by hand means long, error-prone URLs baked into the print; doing it in the redirect keeps the printed link short and the tags editable.
FROM THE PRINT SHOP
Use the same utm_campaign on every code in one campaign and a different utm_source per placement. Your web analytics then show the campaign total and the best placement.
What you get
- One switch turns campaign tracking on or off for a code.
- Three fields: utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign.
- Sensible defaults: source qr, medium qr_code and campaign qr_ followed by the code’s slug.
- Tags are added by the redirect at scan time, not baked into the printed code.
- Change the tags any time, just like the destination, without reprinting.
- A “Scanners land on” line previews the exact final URL with tags applied.
- Existing query parameters on your destination are kept, and the tags are merged in.
How it works
How does uTM campaign tracking work?
Open Destination and tracking
On the code’s page, find Campaign tracking (UTM).
Turn it on
The defaults fill in: qr, qr_code and qr_ plus the slug.
Adjust the tags
Rename the campaign to match your marketing plan, or set a source for the placement.
Check and save
The “Scanners land on” preview shows the final URL. Save, and the next scan carries the tags.

FAQ
Questions about uTM campaign tracking
How do I add UTM parameters to a QR code?
Turn on Campaign tracking (UTM) on the code’s page and set utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. The redirect adds them to your destination on every scan.
Are the UTM tags printed into the QR code?
No. The code holds only its short link; the tags are added at scan time. That keeps the code simple and lets you change the tags later.
What are the default UTM values?
utm_source=qr, utm_medium=qr_code and utm_campaign=qr_ followed by the code’s slug.
Which analytics tools read these tags?
UTM parameters are a common web standard, read by most website analytics tools. Autessa adds them to the URL; your own analytics tool records them.
