Burn and runway
Autessa Accounting includes a burn and runway report for startups: monthly net over the last six months and how long your cash lasts. Beside the average it shows the trend, and if burn is speeding up the trend-adjusted runway, the shorter number, is the one it leads with.
The problem
Runway from a spreadsheet is stale and often too generous
Founders compute runway from a bank balance and a guess at monthly burn, which hides transfers counted as spending and burn that is accelerating. This report reads posted books with transfers already matched, and it shows the trend instead of a flat average.
What you get
- Six months of monthly net, enough to see a trend without an old pivot dragging the average.
- Average monthly net and the trend per month.
- Runway in months at the average burn, or “Profitable” when net income is positive on average.
- When burn is accelerating, the trend-adjusted runway is shown with the flat-rate figure beside it.
- Cash on hand and spending already committed but not yet posted.
- Runway under six months shows red, under twelve amber.

FAQ
Questions about burn and runway
Can Autessa Accounting calculate burn rate and runway?
Yes. The Burn & runway report shows monthly net over the last six months and how many months your cash lasts, trend-adjusted when burn is accelerating.
Why might the runway be shorter than my average suggests?
Because burn may be speeding up. The report leads with the trend-adjusted runway in that case and shows the flat-rate number beside it.
Are card payments counted as burn?
No. Card payments are transfers, matched once, so they never count as spending.
