Transfer and deposit matching

Autessa Accounting’s Match transfers pairs both sides of a transfer, such as a card payment from checking, so it posts once and never counts as spending. It also proposes customer deposits that look like payments on open invoices, and asks where unexplained deposits came from: revenue, owner investment or other income.

The problem

Card payments counted as spending overstate your burn

Add up every negative number in a checking account and the card bill is counted as spending a second time. Payments are transfers between accounts you control. Matching them posts one entry that touches no expense, and a founder’s wire is recorded as equity, not earnings.

What you get

  • Proposed card payments pair a payment out of the bank with the credit on the card; accepting posts one entry that touches no expense account.
  • Proposed invoice payments: deposits that look like a customer paying an open invoice; applying reduces what they owe.
  • Unmatched deposits need a home: revenue, founder money (owner investment) or other income.
  • A card payment with no bank side still moved money: post it with a reason.
  • Dismiss only what was never a transfer.
  • You confirm every match. Close refuses to run while transfers are unmatched.

How it works

How does transfer and deposit matching work in Autessa Accounting?

  1. Transfers are detected

Card payments and their bank side are recognized as they arrive, or marked as transfers in review.

  2. Matches are proposed

Match transfers lists proposed card payments and invoice payments.

  3. You confirm

Accept each match; it posts once.

  4. Place what is left

Say where unmatched deposits came from, or post a one-sided payment with a reason.

FAQ

Questions about transfer and deposit matching

Why does matching card payments matter?

Because a card payment is a transfer, not spending. Counting it as an expense counts your card spend twice and overstates burn.

How do I record money a founder put in?

When the deposit has no invoice, Match transfers asks where it came from. Choose owner investment and it posts to equity, not revenue.

Are matches applied automatically?

No. Accounting proposes matches and you confirm every one.
