Double-entry general ledger
Autessa Accounting keeps a full double-entry general ledger. Every transaction writes at least two ledger lines that balance, you pick categories and the entries are built for you, and a posted entry is never edited or deleted: to correct one you void it, which writes a reversing entry, and both stay visible forever.
The problem
Spend tools that are not books leave you with two sets of numbers
Many spend apps track transactions but leave the real books to a separate accounting system, so the numbers never quite agree. Accounting is the books: the same entry that codes a card charge is the one your balance sheet, P&L and trial balance read.
What you get
- Every entry balances: debits equal credits, always.
- A $22.14 software charge on a credit card debits Research & Development and credits Credit Card Payable.
- Before posting everything is reversible; after posting, every correction leaves a trace.
- Void writes a reversing entry with a reason; the original and the reversal both stay on the Ledger.
- Filter the Ledger by status (pending, posted, void) and search by memo or entry number.
- Open an entry to see its lines, attach supporting documents and add notes.
- Money is kept in integer cents end to end, so rounding never drifts.
How it works
How does double-entry general ledger work in Autessa Accounting?
Transactions are approved
From the review inbox, bills, invoices, matches or manual entries.
Entries are built
Accounting builds the balanced entry from the category and account the money came from.
Posted to the ledger
The entry is posted and becomes part of every report.
Corrected by reversal
A mistake is voided with a reason, writing a reversing entry, and the right entry is posted.
Every option
Ledger statuses and actions
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Statuses | Pending, posted, void. |
| Void | Writes a reversing entry; requires a reason. |
| Supporting documents | Attach a file with a kind and a note; never changes the entry. |
| Notes | Later commentary is its own record with its author; the memo is written once. |
| Closed months | Anything dated in a closed month is corrected only with a reversing entry. |

FAQ
Questions about double-entry general ledger
Is Autessa Accounting a real general ledger?
Yes. It is full double-entry bookkeeping: every transaction writes balanced debit and credit lines to a chart of accounts, and the financial statements are read from those lines.
Can I edit a posted entry?
No. A posted entry is corrected by voiding it, which writes a reversing entry. Both stay visible, so the books always balance and history is never rewritten.
Do I need to know debits and credits?
No. You pick what the money was for and the entries are built for you. Plain-language labels lead, with the accounting terms beside them for your accountant.
