Case management · Autessa Ethics Hotline
Case assignment
Autessa Ethics Hotline lets the committee assign each case to one member as its owner. Only members who are allowed to see the case are offered, so a member the reporter left out can never be assigned, and the assignee is emailed about the assignment and about new reporter messages.
Why it matters
A case everyone can see is a case nobody owns
Committees share responsibility, which makes it easy for each member to assume someone else is following up. One named owner per case fixes that. And because hotline cases can involve committee members themselves, assignment must respect the reporter’s exclusions without anyone having to remember them.
What you get
- One assignee per case, or Unassigned.
- Only members who can see the case are listed; members left out by the reporter are never offered.
- The assignee is emailed when assigned, if Assignments emails are on.
- Reporter messages go to the assignee, or to the whole committee when nobody is assigned.
- The Assignee column in Cases sorts, and unassigned cases read “Unassigned”.
- Assignment changes are recorded in the access log.
How it works
How does case assignment work?
Open the case
The Status card on the right shows the state and the Assignee picker.
Pick a member
The list contains only members who can see this case.
The assignee is told
They get an email pointing them to the workspace, with no report details.
Messages route to them
From now on, reporter messages on this case email the assignee.

FAQ
Questions about case assignment
Can a case be assigned to a committee member the report is about?
No. If the reporter left a member out, that member is never offered as an assignee, can’t see the case and isn’t emailed about it.
Who is told when the reporter writes on an unassigned case?
Every committee member who can see the case and has emails on, when “Reporter messages” is switched on.
Can more than one person work a case?
Yes. One member is the assignee, and every member who can see the case can read it, add notes, message the reporter and move it forward.
