Promotion management
Autessa Homebase includes promotion management: a manager or HR nominates someone for the next level, writes the case against that level’s expectations, attaches evidence, and sends it through an approval chain HR sets up. The person being nominated sees nothing until HR applies the promotion on or after its effective date.
- Case written against the proposed level, side by side with today’s
- Evidence picked from reviews, goals and feedback
- Approval chain: skip-level, HR, then an executive for senior levels
- The nominee is told only when the promotion is applied
The problem
Promotions decided in hallways and spreadsheets
Without a shared process, promotion cases arrive in different shapes, nobody can see where a decision is stuck, and the person can hear about it before it is decided. Homebase gives every case the same structure, the same ladder to argue against, and a clear chain of approvers, while keeping it quiet until it is final.
How it works
How promotion management works in Homebase
Nominate
Anyone above the person in the reporting chain, or HR, opens Nominate someone and picks the proposed level. The current and proposed levels’ expectations sit side by side, so the case is written against the job ladder.
Attach evidence
Pick the reviews, goals and feedback that support the case, from what the nominator is allowed to see. Proposed pay is offered only to people allowed to see the person’s pay; otherwise HR proposes it during review.
Send for approval
The case goes through the approval chain from Settings → Promotions. Each approver gets an email when it is their turn and decides with a comment. Any rejection ends the case, and the nominator reads why.
Apply on the effective date
Once approved, HR applies it on or after the effective date. The profile updates with the new level and title, the change lands in job history, and the person gets a congratulations email.
Options and settings
Every option, in plain words
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Approval chain | Ordered steps HR sets in Settings → Promotions. By default: the skip-level manager, then HR, then an executive for senior levels. |
| Step applies to | Every promotion, or only senior levels. |
| Senior levels | Which levels count as senior, for example executive levels and manager levels above the first one. |
| Committee step | A step can name a specific person; a committee step with nobody set is skipped. |
| Proposed level and title | The level the case argues for, and the new title. |
| Takes effect | The effective date. HR can apply it on or after this date. |
| Proposed pay | Shown and editable only for people allowed to see the person’s pay. |
| Change approver | HR administrators can swap the approver of a waiting step. |
| States | Draft, In review, Approved, Not approved, Withdrawn and Applied. |

✦ AI assist
How the assistant helps
On the promotions pages the assistant can help build a promotion case from what you can see, explain what the next level expects, and tell you where your nomination is in the approvals. Sending or deciding still waits for you to confirm.
It acts with your own access, and anything important waits for you to press Confirm.

FAQ
Questions about promotion management
Is the employee told when they are nominated for promotion?
No. The person being nominated sees nothing and gets no email until HR applies the promotion. Then their profile updates and they get a congratulations email.
Who can nominate someone for promotion?
Anyone above the person in their reporting chain, or HR. The nominator writes the case against the proposed level and picks evidence they are allowed to see.
Can we change who approves promotions?
Yes. HR administrators set the approval chain in Settings → Promotions, choose which steps apply to every promotion or only to senior levels, and can change the approver of a waiting step.
What happens if an approver says no?
Any rejection ends the case. The nominator reads the comment and plans next steps with the person, who was never told.
Does the promotions board show salaries?
No. The committee board shows cases by state and review cycle with counts, never money.
