HRIS and employee records
Departments, teams, levels and positions
Autessa Homebase models your company’s structure: departments that can sit under other departments, cross-functional teams, locations with time zones, a job ladder of levels, and open positions. The org chart, holidays, review cycles and promotions all follow this structure.
- Nested departments, each with a head
- Functional, project and committee teams
- Locations with time zones and their own holidays
- Job levels by track, with what each level means
The problem
Without a shared structure, every report asks “which team is this?”
Departments, teams, locations and levels are the backbone of an HRIS. When they are missing, holidays apply to the wrong office, promotions have no ladder to measure against, and headcount reports cannot add up. Homebase keeps them as real records everyone else builds on.
How it works
How departments, teams, levels and positions works in Homebase
Add departments
Create departments and sub-departments and name each department’s head.
Add locations
Offices and remote regions, each with a time zone and type: office, remote or hybrid. Holidays can follow the location.
Build your job ladder
Levels per track (individual contributor, manager, executive, contractor), each with its expectations and the next level up.
Form teams
Squads, projects and committees across departments, with members, their role in the team and who leads it.
Plan positions
Add roles you plan to fill. Set them to Hiring to show them on the org chart; set Filled by when someone accepts.

FAQ
Questions about departments, teams, levels and positions
Can departments have sub-departments?
Yes. A department can be part of another department, and each one has a head.
Can a person be on more than one team?
Yes. Teams are separate from departments, so people can join functional, project and committee teams across the company.
Does Homebase support a career ladder?
Yes. Job levels are set per track with what each level means and the next level up, and promotions are written against them.
Can I plan open roles?
Yes. Positions can be Planned or Hiring, with a hiring manager and target start, and Hiring roles show on the org chart.
