CMDB and relationship map

Autessa IT Desk includes a CMDB (configuration management database) of the systems you run: computers, servers, applications, SaaS services, business services and network gear. Configuration items carry an owner, a support group, an environment and a criticality, connect through typed relationships, and show an upstream and downstream relationship map on every record.

The problem

When something breaks, you need to know what else depends on it

An incident on the identity provider is really an incident on every app that uses it. Without a map of what runs on what, agents guess at impact, changes collide, and nobody knows who owns the system that is down.

What you get

  • Eight configuration item classes: Computer, Mobile device, Peripheral, Server, Application, SaaS service, Business service and Network gear.
  • Operational status: Operational, Non-operational, Repair in progress, Retired.
  • Environment (production, staging, development, test) and criticality (critical, high, medium, low) on every CI.
  • Relationship types with readable inverses: Depends on / Used by, Runs on / Runs, Hosted by / Hosts, Used by / Uses, Connected to, Contains / Contained by.
  • A relationship map two levels deep, upstream on the left and downstream on the right, that becomes an indented tree on narrow screens.
  • Related lists on each CI: incidents, problems, changes, assets and software that point at it.
  • A runbook link from each CI to its knowledge article.

How it works

How does cmdb and relationship map work in Autessa IT Desk?

  1. Add configuration items

Create CIs for the services and systems you support. Computers imported or assigned as assets get theirs automatically.

  2. Relate them

On a CI, press Add relationship and choose a type, such as an app that runs on a server or a business service that depends on a SaaS app.

  3. Read the map

The relationship map shows what this CI depends on and what depends on it, two levels in each direction.

  4. Use it in the work

Incidents, problems and changes point at a CI. Changes also list affected CIs, which the change calendar uses to find conflicts.

AI assist

How the IT Desk Assistant helps

Ask the IT Desk Assistant "what depends on this server?" on a CI, or "show open incidents on production SaaS services" from a list, and it reads the relationships or applies the filter.

The assistant acts as you, with your role. It fills forms but never saves them, and anything risky waits for you to press Confirm.

Yes. It includes a configuration management database with CI classes, typed relationships, a relationship map, and related incidents, problems, changes, assets and software on every CI.

How are CIs created in the CMDB?
