Renewals and failed-payment retries

Autessa Payments runs recurring billing for you: on each renewal date it creates the invoice for the next period, adds sales tax and charges the card saved at checkout. If a charge fails, it retries 1, 3 and 7 days later and emails your customer a link to pay or update their card; after the fourth decline the subscription ends cleanly.

The problem it solves

Failed payments quietly drain subscription revenue

Cards expire and charges get declined. Without dunning, a subscriber silently drops off or keeps access without paying. Autessa handles the retries and emails, keeps access during the retry window, and closes things out cleanly if nothing works.

What you get

  • Each renewal invoice is a normal invoice with tax and a receipt, listed in the subscription’s Cycle history.
  • A failed charge sets Payment overdue; the list shows the retry in progress (for example “Retry 2 of 4 on Nov 14”) and why the last charge failed.
  • Customers keep access while Autessa retries, and can pay the invoice or update their card from the email.
  • Paying or updating the card in the meantime makes the subscription active again and starts the next period.
  • After the fourth declined charge (first try plus three retries), the subscription ends, the invoice is voided, and you and the customer are both emailed.
  • Free trials send a heads-up 3 days before the first charge.
  • Subscription invoices can’t be edited, resent or voided by hand; the subscription manages them.

How it works

How does renewals and failed-payment retries work in Autessa Payments?

  1. Renewal day

Autessa creates the invoice, adds tax and charges the saved card. The customer gets a receipt.

  2. If it fails

Status goes to Payment overdue and the customer is emailed a link to pay or update their card.

  3. Retries

The card is tried again 1, 3 and 7 days later.

  4. Recovered or ended

A payment restores Active; a fourth decline ends the subscription and voids the invoice.
