Plan switching and proration
Autessa Payments switches a subscription to another plan with proration: a new billing period starts today, the unused days of the current period become credit, and the customer pays the difference on the card on file. You and your customer see the credit, what is due today and the new price before anything changes.
The problem it solves
Upgrades should be instant and fair
Customers hesitate to upgrade when they cannot see the cost, and manual proration math causes disputes. Autessa previews the exact amount and does the math for you.
What you get
- The preview shows Credit for unused time, Tax, Due today and “Then $X from <date>”.
- If the credit is larger than the new price, nothing is charged today and the rest comes off the next charge.
- A failed switch charge is retried like a renewal.
- A customer on a free trial keeps their trial and isn’t charged when they switch.
- Customers can switch plans themselves from their billing page with the same preview.
- Only active plans other than the current one are offered.

FAQ
Questions about plan switching and proration
Does Autessa prorate plan changes?
Yes. The unused days of the current period become credit against the new plan, and a new period starts today.
What if the credit is more than the new plan costs?
Nothing is charged today, and the leftover credit comes off the next charge.
Can customers downgrade themselves?
Yes. From their billing page they can switch to any other offered plan and see the same preview first.
