Trim, crop and titles · Autessa Video Creator
Non-destructive editing
Autessa Video Creator edits are non-destructive: trim and crop are saved as instructions next to the original recording and applied every time the video plays. The file is never re-encoded, so its audio and quality are never lost.
The problem
Re-encoding in the browser can silently drop audio
Baking edits into a new file in the browser means re-recording the video through the page, which is slow and can quietly lose the audio track. Video Creator avoids that entirely: it uploads the original as recorded and keeps your edits as a short set of instructions.
What you get
- The uploaded file is exactly what you recorded, with the audio intact.
- Trim is stored as start and end times; crop is stored as a rectangle relative to the frame.
- The app’s player and the public viewer both apply the same instructions, so every viewer sees the same edit.
- Saving and publishing are instant, because there is no export or render step.
- Older videos without edit instructions simply play in full.
How it works
How does non-destructive editing work in Autessa Video Creator?
Step 1. Edit in Review
Set your trim and crop. Nothing is processed yet.
Step 2. Save draft
Video Creator uploads the original file and saves your edits with it.
Step 3. Play anywhere
Each player seeks to your start, stops at your end and shows only your crop.
Every option
What is stored
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Original file | The recording as captured, MP4 or WebM. |
| Trim | Start and end in seconds; an end of zero means “to the end”. |
| Crop | A rectangle measured as a share of the frame, or none for the full frame. |
| Applied by | The Video Creator player and the public Video Viewer. |
Permissions
Who can do what?
Video Creator keeps ownership simple: the person who records a video owns it.
| Who | Can |
|---|---|
| Video owner (the person who recorded it) | Set the edits in the Review step. |
| People you share with by email, and anyone with the public link | See the edited version; the trimmed parts never play. |

FAQ
Questions about non-destructive editing
If edits are not baked in, can someone see the trimmed part?
Not in either player, which keeps playback inside your trim and shows only your crop. The full original file is kept in your workspace, so trim is for focus, not for hiding secrets.
Why not export a new file?
Exporting in the browser is slow and can lose the audio track. Keeping edits as instructions is instant and keeps your audio safe.
Does it work for videos recorded before edits existed?
Yes. A video without edit instructions plays in full.
