Statement upload (CSV, Excel, PDF)

Autessa Accounting imports bank and card statements from any bank as CSV, Excel (.xlsx) or PDF. It recognizes the bank’s layout, matches each file to a card or account by its last four digits, reads PDFs page by page, and checks the statement’s own arithmetic before a single row is saved.

The problem

A statement import that silently drops or doubles rows corrupts the books

Most imports trust the file. If a column is misread or a page is skipped, the books are wrong and nobody can tell. Accounting proves each statement against itself first: with a running balance it walks the balance line by line, otherwise it checks the totals, and it tells you exactly which numbers do not add up.

What you get

  • Drop one or many CSV, Excel or PDF statements at once.
  • Layouts are recognized automatically; when one is not, a column map editor lets you say which column is the date, description, amount or balance, and which sign means money out.
  • Each file is matched to a tracked card, a Mercury account or a bank account in your chart of accounts, and Accounting asks only when unsure.
  • Running balance walk: “After row 18 the balance should be X, but the statement says Y,” with the difference.
  • Without a running balance, the statement’s totals and ending balance are checked instead.
  • Fix rows inline and check again, or continue with a written reason that is kept on the upload forever.
  • A statement for an account Mercury already syncs can be used for reconciliation only: its ending balance goes to Bank reconcile instead of importing rows again.
  • Rows are auto-coded in the same order as Mercury sync before they reach the review inbox.

How it works

How does statement upload (csv, excel, pdf) work in Autessa Accounting?

  1. Drop the files

Drag statements onto Upload statements. Each file shows its progress, for example “Reading page 2 of 3”.

  2. Match the account

Accounting reads the card or account number printed on the statement and picks the matching card or account.

  3. Check the math

The balance walk or totals check runs. Passing files are ready; failing files say which numbers and which rows look off.

  4. Preview and import

See new rows, duplicates already here and transfers, then import. Everything lands in the review inbox, coded where possible.

FAQ

Questions about statement upload (csv, excel, pdf)

Can I upload PDF bank statements?

Yes. Autessa Accounting reads PDF statements page by page, along with CSV and Excel files, and runs the same math check and duplicate check on all three.

What if my statement does not add up?

Accounting says which numbers are off and which rows look wrong. Fix rows inline and check again, or continue with a written reason that stays on the upload.

Does uploading a Mercury statement double count?

No. Uploads and Mercury sync share one duplicate check, and Accounting offers “Use for reconciliation only” for accounts Mercury already syncs.
