With fewer than two active members, the workspace warns you, so a report about one member can still reach someone else.

The area

What does independence and privacy cover?

Reports reach only a named ethics committee, reporters can leave out members a report is about, nothing identifies an anonymous reporter, and every look at a case is logged.

A speak-up channel is only credible if reports reach independent people, if those people can be routed around when they are involved, and if every look at a case is accountable. This area is where Ethics Hotline is most different from a shared mailbox or a form tool.

Who works here

The named ethics committee; reporters, who choose who to leave out; and auditors, who rely on the access log.

In one sentence each

  • Independent ethics committee · Hotline reports reach only the people named on the ethics committee, not HR roles or company admins, and the workspace warns until two members are active so no report has a single gatekeeper.
  • Leave out committee members · Reporters can keep any committee member from seeing their report: that person cannot open it, is never told about it, cannot be assigned it, and gets the same “not found” as a case that does not exist.
  • Anonymity protections · The hotline never records a reporter’s IP address or device details, keeps passphrases out of URLs and storage, sends emails with no report details and encrypts reports at rest.
  • Access log · The access log records every time a committee member opens or changes a case and every committee or settings change, and nobody can edit or delete an entry.

FAQ

Questions about independence and privacy

Who receives ethics hotline reports?

Only the people named on your ethics committee, minus anyone the reporter left out. HR roles and company admins do not receive reports unless they are committee members.

Can a whistleblower keep a specific investigator from seeing their report?

Yes. On the hotline, the reporter checks the names of any committee members who should not see the report. Those members can’t see, open, be emailed about or be assigned the case.

Can an anonymous hotline report be traced back to me?

Not by the hotline. Autessa Ethics Hotline never records your IP address or device details, never asks who you are in Anonymous mode, and keeps your passphrase only as a hash. What you write could identify you, so the form reminds you to leave identifying details out.

Does the hotline log who viewed a report?

Yes. Every time a committee member opens a case it is logged, along with every change, so you can show exactly who read each report and when.
