Inventors, collaborators and tags

Autessa IDF Manager records the people behind every invention: named inventors as email addresses, additional collaborators who helped but are not inventors, and the author, taken automatically from whoever is signed in. Tags sit alongside them so disclosures can be grouped by technology area.

The problem

Inventorship is a legal question, not a footnote

Who conceived an invention matters when a patent is filed, and it is easy to get wrong months later. Keeping a clean list of inventors, kept separate from the people who simply helped, from the day an idea is written down saves an awkward reconstruction when counsel asks.

What you get

  • Inventors are entered as email addresses and each one is checked as you add it.
  • Additional collaborators are a separate list for people who contributed but are not named inventors, by name or email.
  • Tags are free-form labels, such as "robotics" or "machine-learning", used for search and filtering.
  • Lists are entered one item at a time (type, then Enter), and duplicates are removed automatically, ignoring case.
  • The author is always the signed-in person, so nobody can file a disclosure under someone else’s name from the form.
  • Search covers inventors, collaborators and tags, so "every disclosure by this person" is one query.

How it works

How does inventors, collaborators and tags work in Autessa IDF Manager?

  1. Add inventors

In the Inventors field, type an email address and press Enter. Repeat for everyone who contributed to conception.

  2. Add collaborators

List anyone who helped but should not be named as an inventor, such as a test lab or a colleague who ran experiments.

  3. Tag the disclosure

Add tags for the technology area, product line or program the idea belongs to.

  4. Find it later

Search the Patent Ideas list by any inventor, collaborator or tag to pull up every related disclosure.

FAQ

Questions about inventors, collaborators and tags

What is the difference between an inventor and a collaborator?

Inventors are the people who contributed to the conception of the invention and would normally be named on a patent. Collaborators are everyone else who helped. IDF Manager keeps them in separate lists so the distinction is clear when counsel asks.

Do inventors need an account?

No. Inventors are recorded as email addresses on the disclosure. Only people who will write, review or administer disclosures need access to IDF Manager itself.

Who is recorded as the author?

The person who was signed in when the disclosure was created. The author is not typed on the form, and it decides who may edit and submit the disclosure as a Contributor.
