What does invention capture cover?
Invention capture is the first job of any invention disclosure management system: getting a patent idea out of an inventor’s head and into a record a reviewer can act on. Autessa IDF Manager does it with a structured invention disclosure form, named inventors and collaborators, figures and documents, and a reference code on every record.
Why it matters
- A form short enough to use and complete enough to review
- Inventorship recorded from day one
- Drawings, lab notes and data on the disclosure itself
- One record page and one number for every idea

Everything in invention capture
Invention disclosure form
Autessa IDF Manager includes a structured invention disclosure form (IDF) with a problem statement, summary of the invention, what is novel and known prior art, so every patent idea arrives in the shape a reviewer needs.
Read more →Inventors, collaborators and tags
Autessa IDF Manager records named inventors, additional collaborators and tags on every invention disclosure, and stamps the author from the signed-in user so authorship is never typed by hand.
Read more →Figures and supporting documents
Autessa IDF Manager lets inventors attach figures (PNG and JPG, shown as a thumbnail grid) and supporting documents (PDF, Word, Excel, text and email files up to 10 MB) to any invention disclosure.

Autessa IDF Manager gives every invention disclosure a quotable reference code (IDF-2026-0014) and a single record page with its overview, attachments, review fields, comments and activity.

Questions about invention capture
What is required to save an invention disclosure?
A title, plus either a summary of the invention or a statement of what is novel. Everything else is optional, so an idea can be captured quickly and completed before it is submitted.
What is the difference between an inventor and a collaborator?
Inventors are the people who contributed to the conception of the invention and would normally be named on a patent. Collaborators are everyone else who helped. IDF Manager keeps them in separate lists so the distinction is clear when counsel asks.
What file types can I attach to an invention disclosure?
Images in PNG or JPG format, shown as figures, and documents in PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), Excel (XLS, XLSX), plain text (TXT) and email (EML) format. Each file can be up to 10 MB.
How are invention disclosures numbered?
Each disclosure gets a reference code in the form IDF-YEAR-NUMBER, such as IDF-2026-0014, when it is first saved. You can search for it in the Patent Ideas list.
