Folder and file sharing

Autessa Drive shares folders and files the way Google Drive does: with people, teams, Anyone at your company or a link, as Viewer, Commenter or Editor. Sharing a folder shares everything inside it, including files added later; when someone has access through more than one share, the stronger role wins; and a Who has access list shows every share and where it comes from.

Nobody can answer “who can see this?”

Access granted folder by folder, team by team, quickly becomes a mystery. File-sharing software has to make permissions simple to give and easy to audit, down to the folder an inherited share comes from.

README · what you get
  • Share any folder or file with people, teams (including future team members), Anyone at your company, or a link.
  • Three roles: Viewer (open, preview, download, search), Commenter (plus comments) and Editor (plus upload, create folders, rename, move, trash, restore and edit custom columns).
  • Sharing a folder shares everything inside it, including subfolders and files added later.
  • Access only flows down: sharing /Finance/2026 does not reveal /Finance or its other folders.
  • The stronger role wins when someone has access through more than one share.
  • Who has access lists the owner, drive managers, direct shares and inherited shares with their folder, such as “Finance team · Editor · via /Finance”.
  • Nobody can give a role higher than their own; Editors can share up to Editor when Editors can share is on.
  • Owners can transfer ownership; the previous owner keeps Editor access.

AI agents

How AI agents use it

Search, exact text search and every agent tool follow these permissions. An agent acting for a user returns exactly what that user would see in the explorer, and a file unshared from them stops appearing immediately.

Agents only reach files the person they act for can open, and every agent write is a version you can undo.

Questions about folder and file sharing

What permission levels does Autessa Drive have?

Viewer, Commenter and Editor, plus the item’s Owner and the drive’s managers. Viewers open and download, Commenters also comment, and Editors also upload, rename, move, trash and restore.

Do files inherit folder permissions?

Yes. Sharing a folder shares everything inside it, including subfolders and files added later. Access only flows down, never up to parent folders.

What if someone has two different roles on a file?

The stronger role wins. For example, Viewer on a folder through a team and Editor on a file inside it directly means Editor on that file.

Can I see everyone who has access to a file?

Yes. The Share dialog’s Who has access lists the owner, drive managers, direct shares and inherited shares with the folder they come from.
