Secure File Sharing and Folder Permissions

Autessa Drive shares the way Google Drive does, with one extra safeguard: being a drive member never reveals a file by itself, so every folder is seen only by the people it is shared with.

How Autessa Drive handles sharing and permissions

Drive members →

  • A new drive is empty and private: only its creator and drive admins can see it.
  • Share the drive itself from the Share button in the drive header to add members as Viewer or Editor.
  • Members can be people, teams (including people who join the team later) or Anyone at your company.

Folder and file sharing →

  • Share any folder or file with people, teams (including future team members), Anyone at your company, or a link.
  • Three roles: Viewer (open, preview, download, search), Commenter (plus comments) and Editor (plus upload, create folders, rename, move, trash, restore and edit custom columns).
  • Sharing a folder shares everything inside it, including subfolders and files added later.

Share links →

  • Create a link from Link sharing in any Share dialog.
  • Audience: Anyone with the link, or Only people at your company (they must be signed in).
  • Choose whether link visitors can download files.

Access-aware moves →

  • Moving into a shared folder gives the item that folder’s access.
  • Moving out of a shared folder removes the access it inherited from there.
  • Shares made directly on the item travel with it.

Drive admins and settings →

  • Drive admins can open, move and share everything in the drive.
  • Editors can share is on by default, as in Google Drive; turn it off so only owners and drive admins can share.
  • A storage section shows how much of your allowance the drive uses.

Questions about sharing and permissions

If I add someone to a drive, can they see every file?

No. Drive members see the drive in their list, but only the folders and files shared with them (and anything they add themselves).

What permission levels does Autessa Drive have?

Viewer, Commenter and Editor, plus the item’s Owner and the drive’s managers. Viewers open and download, Commenters also comment, and Editors also upload, rename, move, trash and restore.

Can I share a folder with someone outside my company?

Yes, with a share link set to Anyone with the link. It opens a read-only view of the folder and everything in it.

Does moving a file change who can see it?

It can. Moving into a shared folder gives the file that folder’s access, and moving out removes inherited access. Shares made directly on the file travel with it.

Can I stop editors from sharing files?

Yes. Turn off Editors can share in the drive’s settings, and only owners and drive admins can share.
