How Autessa Drive handles desktop, CLI and API
Drive on your computer →
- Autessa Drive appears in the File Explorer navigation pane on Windows (at %USERPROFILE%\Autessa Drive) and under Locations in Finder on a Mac.
- One folder per drive you belong to, plus Shared with me (one per drive when items come from several).
- Files download when you open them; changes upload by themselves.
Network drive (no install) →
- Connects over WebDAV at https://dav.autessa.com from Finder (Command-K) or File Explorer (Map network drive).
- Sign in with your email and an app password, never your Autessa password.
- Create one app password per computer, named such as Work laptop; up to 20 at a time.
IT admin controls →
- Company Settings, Drive on computers: Allow connecting Drive as a network drive.
- Company Settings, Drive on computers: Allow Drive in the Autessa desktop app.
- Turning off network drives stops every app password right away and prevents new ones.
Drive CLI →
- autessa drive use remembers the drive for your profile; --drive overrides it for one command.
- ls, tree, stat, cat (with --numbers, --pages, --lines) and read print files and folders.
- grep prints one path:page:line: text line per match; search runs ranked or meaning-based search.
Drive API and SDK →
- Every request is a POST to /clients/autessadb-drive/<operation> with the drive’s ID.
- Two layers of permission: the API key’s permission on the drive (READ, WRITE, DELETE) and sharing inside the drive for its acting identity.
- Items it cannot open behave as if they do not exist.
