Redact selected text

In Autessa Redact you select words on the page and redact exactly those words. The box is built from the PDF’s own text geometry, not from how your browser draws the page, so it fits the glyphs tightly at any zoom, on rotated pages and across line breaks.

The problem

Boxes that miss a letter or cover a whole line

Hand-drawn boxes over text tend to either clip the last character of a name or swallow the words around it. Selecting the text you mean, and letting Redact compute the box from the document itself, gives a clean, tight redaction every time.

  • Select text with the mouse and press Enter to redact it as a plain black box, or pick a label first.
  • Boxes come from the PDF’s text positions and font metrics, so they are the same at every zoom level.
  • Rotated pages and pages with an offset layout land exactly, because boxes use page coordinates.
  • A selection that wraps across lines becomes one box per line, with nothing in between covered by accident.
  • The mark bar shows the last label you used, a label picker and Copy text for the selection.
  • Find all occurrences on a selection searches the whole document for the same words.

FAQ

Questions about redact selected text

Can I select text in a scanned document?

Yes. Redact reads the page image of a scan so its text can be selected and searched. Check that boxes found this way cover the words, since they come from the image rather than real text.

Do I have to label every redaction?

No. Labels are optional. Press Enter and the selection becomes a plain black box.

What if my selection spans two lines?

Redact makes one tight box per line, so the words between the two lines’ ends are not covered unless you selected them.
