QR and vCard scanning
Autessa Booth Capture includes a live QR code scanner: point the phone at a badge and it captures on its own when it finds a code. vCard and MECARD codes fill the contact directly, LinkedIn profile codes are saved to the lead, and opaque badge IDs are looked up on the event’s registration list.
The problem
A QR code can hold anything, and most scanners only handle one kind
One badge has a vCard, the next has a registration number, a visitor shows you their LinkedIn code, and a fourth code is just a link to the event website. Booth Capture works out what each code is and does the right thing, falling back to reading the badge photo when the code is not contact details.
What you get
- Live in-page camera that checks for a code about every 160 milliseconds and captures automatically.
- vCard and MECARD: name, organization, title, email, phone, note and URL are used as-is, and the AI read is skipped.
- LinkedIn profile codes are saved to the lead, then the badge is photographed for the rest: “LinkedIn profile saved.”
- A plain web link is not contact details, so the badge is captured as a photo instead.
- Badge IDs are matched to the registration list: “Badge ID matched — <name>.”
- The same code is ignored for 8 seconds, so holding the phone still never double-captures.
- A shutter (“Capture badge”) for badges with no code, and “Use phone camera” if the live camera is blocked.
How it works
How does qr and vcard scanning work in Booth Capture?
- STEP 1
Open Scan QR codes
From the ⋯ menu or by long-pressing Capture. The hint reads: “Point it at the badge.”
- STEP 2
It reads the code
The phone’s built-in barcode detector is used where available, with a fallback decoder everywhere else.
- STEP 3
It decides what the code is
Contact card, LinkedIn profile, badge ID or plain link, each handled differently.
- STEP 4
Keep scanning
Point at the next badge. Each code becomes its own capture.
Every option
How each kind of code is handled
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| vCard / MECARD | Name, organization, title or role, email, phone, note and URL. Treated as authoritative: AI extraction is skipped and the photo is still kept. |
| LinkedIn profile URL | Saved on the lead as the profile link; the badge photo is still read by AI. |
| Plain URL or text | Falls back to the photo and AI path. |
| Opaque ID | Looked up against the event registration list’s registration ID. |
| Repeat guard | The same code is ignored for 8 seconds after a read. |
| No code | Tap the shutter and the photo is read for you. |
Permissions
Who can do what?
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Sales rep | Capture, edit their view of a lead, add notes, voice notes and photos, rate leads and draft follow-ups. Capture is never restricted by role. |
| Sales manager | Everything a rep can, plus edit and delete leads, export CSV and archive events. |

FAQ
Questions about qr and vcard scanning
Can Booth Capture read conference badge QR codes?
Yes. It reads vCard and MECARD codes as contact details, matches badge ID codes to the registration list and saves LinkedIn profile codes.
What happens if the QR code is only a link?
Booth Capture captures the badge as a photo instead and AI reads the details from it.
Does it capture automatically?
Yes. When it finds a code it captures on its own, and it ignores the same code for 8 seconds to avoid duplicates.
