Folders and files

Autessa Drive is cloud file storage organized the way people already think: drives that hold real folders and files, each with a stable path such as /Finance/2026/q1-report.pdf. You can create a new Word document, spreadsheet, slide deck or text document right where you are, and add your own columns to any file for things like a client ID or status.

Shared files sprawl when nobody owns the structure

Company documents end up in email attachments, personal folders and a dozen tools, so nobody knows which copy is current and agents have nothing reliable to read. A company drive with real folders, unique names and clear ownership gives people and AI one place to look, and one path to cite.

README · what you get
  • A drive is a named, private space for your company’s files, created from AutessaDB with a name, a description and optional drive admins.
  • Folders are real items: they can be empty, shared, moved and trashed like any file.
  • Every item has a path, and names are unique within a folder regardless of case, so Report.pdf and report.pdf can’t sit side by side.
  • Paths can be up to 64 folders deep and each name up to 255 bytes.
  • The New menu creates a folder, Word document, spreadsheet, slide deck or Markdown text document in the current folder and opens it straight in its editor.
  • Each file or folder is also a row, so you can add custom columns such as a tag, client ID or status and use them in triggers.
  • The person who adds an item is its owner, and nothing they add is visible to others until it is shared.

how-it-works

How does folders and files work in Autessa Drive?

  1. 1

    Create a drive

Open AutessaDB, click New and choose Drive. Name it, describe it and optionally add drive admins who can manage everything in it. You land in an empty, private drive.

  2. 2

    Shape the folders

Create folders with the New menu or by uploading a folder from your computer, which recreates its structure.

  3. 3

    Create documents in place

Pick Word document, Spreadsheet, Slide deck or Text document. The file appears with a placeholder name you can change on the spot and opens in its editor.

  4. 4

    Add your own columns

Add custom columns to the drive, such as client_id or status, and fill them per file. Built-in columns like path, name, size and version are managed for you.

AI agents

How AI agents use it

Agents work with the same folders and paths. With write access, an agent can create folders (missing parents are made on the way) and text files, so it can file its own output, such as a summary next to the contract it read.

Agents only reach files the person they act for can open, and every agent write is a version you can undo.

Questions about folders and files

How do I create a company drive?

Open AutessaDB, click New and choose Drive. Give it a name and description, optionally add drive admins, and click Create. The new drive is empty and private until you share it.

Can two files have the same name?

Not in the same folder. Names are unique within a folder regardless of case. When an upload collides with an existing name, you choose Keep both or Replace.

Can I add my own fields to files?

Yes. Add custom columns to the drive, such as a client ID or status, and use them in triggers. The built-in columns are managed for you.

Can I have more than one drive?

Yes. A company can have several drives, for example one per department or client, each with its own members, admins and settings.
