Autessa Recruit · AI screening
Screening and knockout questions
Autessa Recruit includes screening questions with knockout rules: required answers, excluded answers, required choices and number limits flag applicants who do not meet the basics.
The problem
Why screening and knockout questions matters
Some roles have hard requirements, like a license, a location or work authorization. Finding out in the third interview wastes everyone’s time. You want to ask up front and see instantly who doesn’t meet the basics.
The short answer
Autessa Recruit includes screening questions with knockout rules: required answers, excluded answers, required choices and number limits flag applicants who do not meet the basics.
How it works
How screening and knockout questions works in Autessa Recruit
- 01
Write the question
Pick an answer type: short answer, paragraph, yes/no, single choice, multiple choice or number, with optional help text.
- 02
Add a knockout rule
Require an answer, exclude an answer, require a choice, or set a lowest or highest number. Written answers can’t knock anyone out; use a grading hint instead.
- 03
Give the AI a hint
For any question, write what a strong answer looks like. Only the AI assessment sees it.
- 04
See who missed the basics
Applications that don’t meet a knockout rule are marked, and the answer shows “Didn’t meet the knockout rule”.

Who can do what?
Recruit’s roles decide what each person sees. Hiring managers are narrowed to their own jobs, interviewers to their own interviews.
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Admin | Set baseline questions and edit any job’s questions. |
| Recruiter | Edit any job’s questions. |
| Hiring manager | Edit their own job’s questions. |
| Candidate | Answers questions on the application form. |
Where AI helps
Grading hints tell the AI what a strong written answer looks like, so paragraph questions are judged by your standard. AI in Recruit is advice: it never moves an applicant or makes a decision.

FAQ
Screening and knockout questions: questions
Does Autessa Recruit support knockout questions?
+
Yes. Yes/no, choice and number questions can carry knockout rules, such as a required answer or a minimum number, and failing applicants are marked.
Are knocked-out applicants rejected automatically?
+
No. They are marked so your team can act quickly, but people make the decision.
What happens if we edit a question that already has answers?
+
Earlier answers stay attached to the old wording, and new applicants see the new question, so nothing is rewritten after the fact.
