Subtasks
Autessa Vision supports subtasks: a subtask is a full task with its own status, assignee, priority and page that sits under its parent. The parent card shows progress such as 2 of 3 done, and subtasks stay grouped with their parent instead of crowding the board.
The problem
Big tasks hide how much is left
“Build the sprint review” is really five pieces of work owned by three people. Without subtasks, the card sits in In Progress for two weeks and nobody can tell how close it is. Subtasks make the pieces visible and give each one an owner.
What you get
- Add subtasks from the parent’s task page; each new subtask takes the parent’s sprint and project so it stays grouped.
- Tick a subtask’s checkbox to mark it done (it moves to the done column) or untick it to reopen.
- The parent shows a progress tick, such as 2 of 3, on its card, in sprint rows and on the task page.
- Drag a card onto another card’s center on the board to make it a subtask; it keeps every detail.
- Type /page in a task’s description to create a linked subtask without leaving the editor.
- Detach a subtask to make it a standalone task again, or delete it after confirming.
- On the Sprints page, subtasks are shown under their parent and can be collapsed or expanded.
How it works
How does subtasks work in Autessa Vision?
Break it down
On the parent task, type each piece into Add a subtask. Or drop existing cards onto the parent on the board.
Assign and track
Open any subtask to set its own owner, priority and due date. It has its own page, comments and history.
Check them off
Tick subtasks as they finish. The parent’s progress updates everywhere it appears.
Restructure
Detach a subtask that turned into its own piece of work, and it returns to the board as a top-level task.
Every option
Subtask rules
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Depth | One level: a task with its own subtasks cannot itself become a subtask. |
| Inherits | Sprint and project from the parent when created on the task page. |
| Done | A subtask counts as done when it is in a done column. |
| Visibility | Shown under the parent; hidden from the board, sprint and project views as separate cards. |
| Subtask menu | Open, detach (make standalone) or delete. |
| Breadcrumb | A subtask’s page shows “Subtask of” with a link to the parent. |
Permissions
Who can do what?

AI assist
How Vision AI helps
AI task triage suggests up to six concrete subtasks for a task that is bigger than one sitting and has none yet, and adds the ones you accept. New with AI can also break notes into separate tasks.
Vision AI always shows a preview or asks first. You decide what is applied.

Questions about subtasks
Are subtasks full tasks in Vision?
Yes. Each subtask has its own status, assignee, priority, due date, estimate, labels, page, comments and history.
How deep do subtasks go?
One level, so progress stays clear on the parent card.
How do I turn a subtask back into a task?
Use Detach in the subtask’s menu on the parent’s page. It becomes a standalone task again, with all its details, back on the board.
